Holiday roofline lighting on a lakeshore home in Holland, Michigan

Holiday Lighting Installation in Holland, MI

Custom-cut, clip-mounted, installed before the lake-effect arrives

Holland is the first place in our territory to lose its install window. The snow that comes off Lake Michigan in November does not care that the rest of West Michigan is still dry. We plan every Holland holiday lighting install around that fact, and we handle the takedown in January so nobody in your house is on an iced roof.

Why Holland books before the rest of West Michigan

Our crews run the lakeshore first every season for one reason: Lake Michigan. When the lake is still warm and the air turns cold, the west wind picks up moisture and drops it on Holland, Park Township, Laketown Township, and Macatawa before it reaches Grand Rapids. Some years that first real lake-effect band lands in the first half of November. Some years it holds off until December. We do not know in advance, so we build the schedule as if it is coming early.

That is why Holland homeowners who call us in late summer get the pick of install dates, and homeowners who call after the first snow get worked in around the weather. We are honest about it on the first call. A roof with an inch of wet lake-effect snow on it is not a roof we put a crew on, and it should not be one you climb either.

The rest of the territory, Grand Rapids, Ada, Rockford, and Kalamazoo, typically stays workable a week or two longer. Holland does not get that cushion, and the lighting plan has to respect it.

Built for lakeshore wind, not just lakeshore snow

Homes along Lakeshore Drive, out on the Macatawa peninsula, and in the Waukazoo neighborhood take a straight shot of wind off the water for most of the winter. Big-box light strands with a plastic clip every few feet do not hold up to that. Ours do, because we spec the hardware for the exposure.

  • Commercial-grade LED strands, cut on site. We measure every run, main roofline, gables, dormers, porch, garage, and cut the strand to the exact length. No coiled slack, no half-lit sections, no splices that fail in the first storm.
  • Tightened clip spacing on exposed elevations. The west and north faces of a lakeshore home get clips closer together than the sheltered side. It is a small thing that keeps a strand from lifting in a January gale.
  • Sealed connections. Every plug and junction is weather-sealed so a wet, windblown snow does not trip a circuit on the one evening you have guests over.
  • Timers and photocells set for Holland sunsets. December dusk here comes a little after five. The display comes on when the sky goes dark, not when somebody remembers to flip a switch.

No holes in your house. Ever.

Holland has a lot of well-kept older homes in the historic district off 8th Street and along River Avenue, and a lot of newer builds in Park Township and out toward Zeeland with composite trim and metal gutters that nobody wants punctured. We attach the same way on all of them: clips. Shingle clips under the tab, gutter clips on the lip, fascia clips where there is no gutter. No staples, no nails, no screws, no adhesive on painted trim.

When the lights come down in January, there is nothing left behind to patch, repaint, or explain to the next owner. On cedar shake, slate, and standing-seam metal we adjust the clip style to the material rather than forcing a shingle clip onto something it was never designed for.

What a Holland holiday lighting install includes

You are not buying a box of lights. You are buying a season that works. Every residential holiday install in Holland covers:

  • An on-site measurement and design conversation at your house, so the plan matches the roofline you actually have
  • Custom-cut, commercial-grade LED roofline lighting in warm white, cool white, or color
  • Optional wreaths, garland, column wraps, tree wraps, and landscape uplighting
  • Installation by our crew, with the ladders, the harnesses, and the insurance
  • In-season service if a section goes dark, at no additional charge
  • Takedown after the holidays, on our schedule and our ladders
  • Labeled storage, so next year is a re-hang instead of a rebuild

Most Holland clients keep the same design for years and add to it, a tree wrap here, the back deck there. Because the strands are cut to your house, adding on is simple.

The January takedown is the half people forget

Ask anyone who has done their own holiday lights on a Holland house which part they dread, and it is never November. It is the first weekend in January when the gutters are iced, the shingles are slick, and the lights have to come down anyway. That is where ladders slip. That is the part of the job we most want you to hand to us.

Our takedown crews run through the winter on the lakeshore. We pull the display, coil and label every strand with your name, and store it until next fall. You do not touch a ladder, a roof, or a frozen gutter. If a lake-effect week pushes your takedown date, we tell you and reschedule. We do not send a crew onto a roof that is not safe to walk.
