About Michigan Lighting Partners
Locally owned, nationally backed. Serving Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and Grand Haven with professional holiday and permanent lighting built for Michigan winters.
Our Story
Michigan Lighting Partners was built on a simple idea: homeowners and businesses deserve professional lighting installations that actually last through Michigan's demanding seasons.
Our team lives and works across West Michigan. We design, install, service, and remove every project ourselves, with a crew that has been hanging lights on Michigan rooflines for years. We know which East Grand Rapids brick veneers need delicate clip work, which historic homes on the Heritage Hill limestone need ladder protection, which Grand Haven and Holland lakeshore properties need wind-rated attachments, and which Kalamazoo estates need a coordinated multi-day install before the first lake-effect band rolls in.
As part of the Lighting Partners franchise network, we bring national-level supply chain, training systems, and commercial-grade equipment to every job. As a locally owned and operated business, the team that quotes your Grand Haven lakefront home or your Grand Rapids retail block is the same team that shows up on install day and answers the phone when a strand goes out in a January ice storm.
West Michigan is four connected markets under one franchise territory. Grand Rapids metro is the anchor: East Grand Rapids, Ada, Cascade, and Forest Hills estates, family-office wealth, historic brick and limestone downtown commercial corridors, and a deep healthcare and office furniture manufacturing base. The lakeshore corridor from South Haven and Saugatuck up through Holland, Grand Haven, Spring Lake, and Muskegon is a resort and second-home market where owners want the property lit and looked after whether or not they are in town that week. Kalamazoo and Battle Creek add university and corporate campus work plus established residential neighborhoods in Portage, Oshtemo, and Richland. Mid-Michigan rounds it out with the Lansing and East Lansing government and university market and the Jackson and Marshall historic districts. Every one of these markets rewards the same thing: a contractor that shows up on time, leaves the roof cleaner than they found it, and stands behind every fixture through a West Michigan winter.
Our Commitment to Michigan
Michigan Lighting Partners was founded on a simple idea. Exterior lighting in a Michigan winter, whether for the holidays or year-round, should be handled by professionals who treat your roof, your shingles, your masonry, and your gutters with the same care they would give their own home.
We invest in commercial-grade materials because cheap lights crack at the first hard freeze and look cheap from the curb. We invest in trained installation crews because sloppy work on a Grand Haven lakefront home or a Kalamazoo estate roofline shows from the street. We invest in customer service because in a market like West Michigan, the best advertising is a neighbor asking who did your lights.
The Lighting Partners franchise network gives us national supply chain, training systems, and equipment purchasing power. Local ownership gives us responsiveness and accountability that a national field office cannot match. You get both.
We serve Grand Rapids, East Grand Rapids, Ada, Cascade, Grandville, Wyoming, and surrounding Michigan communities across both metros. If you are in our service area, we want to earn your business this season.

Frequently Asked Questions
- We cover West Michigan across four regions. Grand Rapids metro includes Grand Rapids, East Grand Rapids, Ada, Cascade, Forest Hills, Grandville, Wyoming, Hudsonville, Jenison, Rockford, Byron Center, Caledonia, and Lowell. The lakeshore runs from South Haven and Saugatuck through Holland, Zeeland, Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Ferrysburg, and Muskegon. Kalamazoo and Southwest Michigan covers Kalamazoo, Portage, Oshtemo, Richland, Battle Creek, Plainwell, Otsego, Paw Paw, Three Rivers, and the Saint Joseph and Benton Harbor area. Mid-Michigan covers Lansing, East Lansing, Okemos, Haslett, Holt, Mason, Jackson, Marshall, Albion, Hastings, and Ionia. We also serve a northern Michigan pocket around Petoskey, Charlevoix, Boyne City, and Gaylord. If your zip code is not listed but you are near our service area, contact us. We do travel for larger commercial projects.
- The West Michigan install window is tight because lake-effect snow arrives early. We open scheduling in late summer and the calendar fills by early October. Installs run from late September through early December, with lakeshore properties in Grand Haven, Holland, and Muskegon scheduled first because they sit directly in the snowbelt. If you book by Labor Day you get first choice of dates. After mid-October we cannot guarantee a pre-Thanksgiving install.
- Yes. Every fixture we install is commercial-grade LED rated for sub-zero operation, snow load, and ice accumulation. Our clip systems are designed to hold under the heavy wet snow that lake-effect bands produce and to release without damaging shingles or gutters during freeze-thaw cycles. On exposed lakeshore properties we add wind-rated attachments because sustained onshore gusts put far more stress on a light run than inland sites ever see. We do not use cheap retail-grade lights that crack at the first hard freeze.
- Yes. Ice dams are a real West Michigan concern and our crews are trained to install in ways that do not contribute to them. We use non-penetrating clips along eaves and never staple or screw into shingles. Wiring is routed away from valleys where snow loads concentrate. If your roof has existing ice dam concerns we will flag them on the site assessment and adjust the design.
- Holiday lighting is a seasonal service. We supply commercial-grade LED strands, hang them in late fall, service them through the season, take them down after the holidays, and store them for next year. Permanent lighting is a fixed aluminum channel system installed once along your roofline. Individual RGB LEDs inside the channel produce any color from a smartphone app. The system stays up year-round and works for every holiday, sports event, party, or daily evening accent. For West Michigan customers facing long dark winters, permanent lighting often pays back faster than people expect.
- For many West Michigan homeowners and commercial properties the answer is yes. Our winters are long, gray, and cloudy thanks to the lake. Sunset arrives by 5 p.m. for months at a time. A permanent LED system gives you tasteful warm-white accent lighting from November through March without the annual install and removal cycle, plus full holiday and event color whenever you want it. The aluminum channels are weather-rated for our freeze-thaw cycles and the systems carry 10 to 15 year lifespans. Lakeshore second-home owners like them especially because the property looks lived-in and cared for even during weeks when nobody is there.
